SPwaterstationPure Drinking Water Project

The settlement of Jeerango is located in a remote jungle area of south eastern India, where basic facilities, such as sanitation and access to drinking water, are scarce. This is at the root of easily preventable health conditions, such diarrhea, hepatitis, cholera, tuberculosis and malaria.

In 1995, the generosity of foreign donors provided for the construction of a Pure Drinking Water Station in the settlement supplying the homes of five camps and one nearby local village with “piped” drinking water, free from malaria and other waterborne diseases.

Statistics show that the number of malaria cases has declined significantly since the installation of a “piped” water system. This project is also benefiting the local indigenous population. As Jigme Rinpoche has said "I wanted to return some of the kindness and goodness that India has shown towards the Tibetan people for having hosted us in difficult times."
